I'm confused about the name since there already was a 604E-2 supplied stock with Big Red monitors.

Hmm just when I was deadset on the III's, this comes along...

Any info Todd on the likely release date/pricing?

As for the older 2's - those weren't issued with that number by Altec, as far as I can see.

As for the III's - they are THE BEST 604 ever made: it's going to be pretty hard to beat the HF response, as they really DO play out to 20 kHz (the new horn is AMAZING!).

This is going to be one of GPA's "Classic Series" - Alnico V with a few twists, including the modern phase plug, as someone mentioned, and (perhaps) a different horn (it won't be the Mantaray or the new Radial). We're testing a version of it with the true multicellular horn used in the original 604 through the 604B to see how it performs. While nothing will outperform the new radial horn of the 604-8H-III, we have high hopes that the Carrington-designed multicellular horn will perform VERY nicely. Of course, with the white frame, Altec green magnet covers, the multicellular horn just "makes" the look.

More as soon as test are finished...

Could be but they exist as "604-E2" nonetheless, and in reasonable quantity, thus making it an odd name for a new product.

I figure this driver never eventuated/made it to production, will it still be released sometime in the future?

    These cross at 1K

AIUI the xover rolls of the highs but I would go active anyway.

Redhead says I can replace the home theater system if the old ones go.
Now those are way cool. If the price is right, I would certainly pick up a few. These would be perfect for the newish installation technique of ceiling and wall mounted HT.

    Reviving an old thread..

Heard from GPA last night that the spec sheet is now available, and about one month until the 8ohm version is ready... The true 604b style multicellular looks the goods..
